So Hungry!!!!!!! Why?

Why am I getting out and out hunger pain so often during a day?

Until I get this problem solved, weight loss efforts will be more difficult.  I even do things like eat a 40 calorie piece of vegan cheese, cut up green pepper or 10 pistachios [all these things separately for different snacks] for a snack and still it knocks on my door.

I am still keeping calories under 2,000 most days and aiming for 1800 but this is driving me nuts. I have lost a few pounds in last couple months but too slow. I'm fighting not to gain. Yeah Yeah, I know the insulin resistance and rest is bad.  Sugars aren't bad either. One reason doctors believe me about eating is long term diabetes control even being on pills. There is many times I'd rather be doing something else, and I trained myself to ignore  it for an hour or two, but it is plaguing me like crazy.

I've complained about my endless hunger pains before. NOT BOREDOM, I can be in the middle of something and NOT want to eat at that time. It's crazy and it's not normal. I have tweaked the carbs and taken all that advice, vegetables etc. Isn't appetite supposed to die with age? I'm old it needs to disappear. Sometimes lately I feel pissed from being hungry, and annoyed.  Oh if I ignore hunger pain for two hours, I get the fun called dry heaves.

My worse time for hunger is mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Sometimes I worry this is due to the digestive issue, the good stuff isn't getting in,

To any fat haters who read this blog, I bet you can go without food 18 hours and not even feel it. Oh how I wish!

  1. You need more fat in your diet. If you are eating under 50g of carbs per day, increasing fat, including saturated, will keep your hunger at bay. Good sources are nuts, coconut oil, avocadoes, butter, cheese, cream.

    1. I think you are right, these things should help more. I know yogurt helps kill more hunger, I am lactose intolerant but can eat that. I know the healthier fats keep things going longer.

    2. yeah, I used to belong to Weight Watchers many years ago (at least it taught me to eat pretty healthily) and one or more of the members, found out because they allowed you so little FAT, they couldn't lose weight! I found out later, your body needs a certain amount of fat, just to chemically let your body lose weight! If you're not eating enough fat, it gets very stubborn, and refuses to let you lose anymore weight.

    3. I know so many who dropped out of Weight Watchers. They got too hungry. One lady told me she got sick because they would not let her eat enough food, she was smaller but somewhat overweight so her food points were very low. I think the low fat stuff causes more weight gain. Hunger pain is held off by healthy fats. I feel better when I have some healthier fats, olive oil, avacadoes etc.

  2. Weight loss is hard for everyone. I happen to have a BMI in the healthy range, but I also have a sweet tooth. To control my weight, I exercise 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day. I also take care of my mother, who suffered a stroke 2 years ago, is quite heavy, has hypertension and bad arthritis. On her last doctor's visit, her BP was high, so her doctor recommended a 10 lb weight loss by the next visit (3 months). I cut her calories by about 1/3 and she was miserable, and livid! To make matters worse, it was more than 3 weeks before even one pound came off. Eventually, she lost 8 lbs and normalized her BP, but it was not easy. So, just 2 different experiences to show it is a lot of hard work and takes preserverence.

    1. I have to work not to gain. I can lose mobility with 50 more so you can see I have to be careful. I am trying to sink calories as low as I can but then I am noticing my diabetes goes nuts when I suppress too much and my A1C has been higher. 7.3. I am sorry your mother has weight problems. It seems that older people usually lose weight. I was hoping as I aged my appetite would go down. Ill health in me will kill it for a few days with an acute illness but not enough to do real weight loss. I feel like I have to cook constantly. I did get a lot of veggies yesterday at at a veggie stand which is good. I want the 30lbs off that seemed to come out of nowhere too from needing more thyroid meds.

  3. I have heard the fatter you are, the hungrier you get due to hormonal issues. There isn't a quick fix but it is a real phenomenon. It's related to insulin and chemical messages from fat cells. It takes a lot of perseverance and more "willpower" than it does for skinnier people. Good luck, wishing you well.

  4. You weigh 500 lbs. The heavier you are, the more calories your body burns and therefore needs to function on a daily basis. Think about it--every time you move, you're carrying a 500lb weight along with you. No wonder you're always hungry--your body is using calories faster than you can take them in. I don't have any real advice on how to handle it, but don't be so hard on yourself for what's a natural reaction from your body. Think instead of how badass you are for even getting up in the morning and being able to constantly carry around a 500lb weight. Ask any thin, non body builder to try that sometime.

  5. LOL a nurse told me that and said no wonder you are hungry. She was an understanding nurse. I think of all the nutritional needs in there I am trying to meet. I feel like crap if I take the calories too low, I do know that. I even get cold. Lipedemics know from intense study, our bodies have serious absorption issues. This explain my multiple nutritional deficients, I wrote about some time ago before I knew I had stage IV lipedema.

  6. Last night I ate a small dinner, just small turkey sandwich and acouple tablspoons of yogurt, and had hunger pain all during the night. I was too fuzzed out to eat just stumbling to bathroom. I have noticed if I take in only a little the hunger pain comes. I did eat bigger lunch with tofu with vegetables, some turkey bacon, and yogurt mixed with blueberry compote--lower sugar, this meal will probably last well enough at least.

  7. peep, are you taking One-A-Day vitamins? Or some kind of daily vitamin? You have to do that. Is there anyway, your medical insurance or any of your doctors can get you vitamins? You really need to have those because anybody on a diet of any kind, their doctor usually tell them to take vitamins. I would go through all the BS, you have to to get some type of insurance, or something to help pay for your vitamins.also, does your Main physician check you every year for "vitamin and mineral panel"? They take blood, and they do a check every year to the if your vitamins and minerals in your body, are at too low a ratio. That can affect everything!since you are already having several diseases, I would say that this yearly test is a real necessity for you. I am trying to lose weight for my health (I have normal elderly caloric reactions) because it would help my blood pressure and my heart. And I take tons of vitamins.. I have to.--db in Oregon

    1. Yes I got some vitamins. I need to remember to take them better. I bought a big bottle for over 50 year olds. I am a bit under 50 but figure I'm close enough and sick enough it doesn't matter. They found low vitamins galore in me. I have to take by prescription this giant Vit D pill and get monthly B-vitamin shows. You would think I eat nothing by my nutritional panels. They scare my doctors. They said long ago I have some kind of malabsorption thing going. Its this bad even during times when the IBS is behaving itself and there is no renal colic making me barf.

    2. "show" should be shot. I have noticed during my food rich weeks, when I have all the yogurt and vegetables I want, I feel a lot lot better.
