Diabetes Will Drive You Insane

I just ate some old lettuce with a half can of cold green beans on it, stripped off some of the leftover chicken making sure for no skin and more of the leftover mini-peppers and a little bit of salad dressing for breakfast. If I don't eat I'll get sicker.  Lately I wish I could just stop eating and save the money and trouble.

There's my Hillybilly Housewife, don't die of diabetes meal. Her food would jack my diabetes into death levels. I know she wants the poor just to eat but it is carbohydrate land to the max.

Food pantry food SUCKS for diabetics.  My sugar was 158 this morning which is high and bad for me since I am usually at 108-125.  The doctor said if I hit an occasional high one that is okay, so it will happen but it is frustrating this week. I knew it was creeping up.

I am doing what I can. I figured out why my blood sugar was so high, I should have peeled my chicken, and had white bread at a lunch at a disability seminar, and drinking too much V8 juice [from the food pantry] was not good.  It seems they want the poor to eat nothing but spaghetti too and even spaghetti mixed with vegetables as my body really wanted cottage cheese and salad wasn't going to cut it.

If I get too hungry my sugars go up. Why does food deprivation make my sugars higher? It seems counter productive. Why do I have to sleep 10 hours a night for good blood sugars? It's like I have to be complete passed out for 10 hours. Why does stress jack them up? Why does DOING STUFF, ie, walking around, doing some housework, going to events and being busy make them higher? That one is weird to me. Like the body is saying, you have made me do too much, I am checking out of here, but I don't want to spend my entire life in bed.

  1. I am wondering if you can make special requests at your food pantry, and they can buy the food that you need? We do this at ours, we have 75 clients, small town, and I think we have at least 4 special needs clients, we stock what they need and just for them only they will get the special items. Someone needs gluten free, we get them gluten free. We have one that has a baby, and we stock baby supplies just for them, and always have it when they show up. They even get 10 diapers a month. The family has had some rough times. We don't give people what they don't need, it is a waste of resources, and the system seems to work. We actually tweek it to make sure it works, and things change, if they have to. Diabetes is so common, I don't see why the food pantry is not making accommodations for it. We do. If someone is allergic to tomatoes they don't get tomatoes, but even out their supplies regardless. They don't get less because of an allergy. Although I can see a psychopath would enjoy torturing, make things harder on people, but its not that hard to fix, really.

I didn't know Hillbilly Housewife was still up and running. I used to read it, but food was not an issue for me, but we weren't all that fond of beans. I wonder why spaghetti is so pushed on the poor, I didn't know wheat was all that plentiful.

    1. That is a good idea, that you do special needs at your food pantry. I have not seen it here. Some are better then others. I wish they realized some people are old and diabetic and can't eat oily or carby foods, we definitely need more fruits and vegetables. I have been handed food I am allergic too--tuna fish by bad food pantries but go to one where I can pick things out. Tommorow I am going to an annual food drive. I don't like beans either, black beans and garbanzo beans in a salad are okay. I don't digest them well even with a bunch of vinegar added in the cooking. Glad you have enough food. Yes I wonder why carbs are pushed first, is wheat more plentiful then everything else?

  2. Sorry for your troubles . It really stinks.
I also have a different health problem where if I do too much my body revolts. Even housework. It is frustrating. No one wants to spend their life in bed.My body is really picky about food also, but for different health reasons;so a food pantry would be a nightmare.
They should have a food pantry for the sick. People with special needs. Oh, I'm sorry we have too many other important agendas in this country which are totally baloney (sarcasm dripping)...
    Hope your weekend is better.

    1. I'm in bed now though I may get up soon. My body is revolting from activity to the point "doing" something is guaranteed higher blood sugar and that weirds me out and it is supposed to work differently from that. I do have a lot of blocked out pain though. Sorry you are facing that too. I have the picky body, I have some cheese but am out of lactase milk so can't eat it now. I think they should have a food pantry for the sick. I told one woman, I wish I could join the PACE program I'm too young just to have someone even cook me a decent lunch everyday. I agree about the other agendas. I wonder why they are making some of us live this way. I will be honest disability isn't sustainable because of no COLAs. Yes they will send more money overseas and whine about the stupid bathrooms.

    1. I am supposed to go to a state disabled meeting and I am going to tell them we can't afford to live anymore while there. I agree we need lobbyists. I am getting involved in local disability rights stuff as much as possible. Us disabled people have to start standing up or we will be squished.

  5. I agree disabled people are being pushed aside and they are the most vulnerable population.
