So Not funny! Quit that team, indeed or "There IS no team," Sorry to be a snowflake but I'm triggered.lol Taking one for the team is too much like "taking the high road" or "keeping the peace" for the sake of "family," always at your expense, to placate a narc sibling, etc.
Yeah really there is "no team" or find a team where you are NOT a disappointment. Understand the trigger, I am thinking of Meg Griffith here from that cartoon Family Guy. All the messages out there to sit there and take abuse, for the famibly....
George Carlin said I often warn people: "Somewhere along the way, someone is going to tell you, 'There is no "I" in team.' What you should tell them is, 'Maybe not. But there is an "I" in independence, individuality and integrity.'" Avoid teams at all cost. Keep your circle small. Never join a group that has a name. If they say, "We're the So-and-Sos," take a walk. And if, somehow, you must join, if it's unavoidable, such as a union or a trade association, go ahead and join. But don't participate; it will be your death. And if they tell you you're not a team player, congratulate them on being observant.”
Love that saying, I need to remember that one. The last job I got the team building BS shoved down my throat, and the reality was it was "back stab" city, any gung ho team player would have been a sucker. I am not a joiner. Even when I went to churches, I never became "official", I always feared they'd require the 10 percent haul then. Agree with George Carlin here, definitely. When I am in groups, I don't want to let them "own" me. Wish there was a place for more spontaneous associations at times.
Spoken like a true Golden Child from relatively normal household.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Take one for the team and worship us, the narcs and GC. You're only role is to be the kicking post.
