Be Careful of Those Pill Boxes

I didn't pay attention but I think my kidney pills went "off" from heat and humidity in one of those days of the week pill-cases and decided to stop working.  We have air conditioning in here in two rooms but sometimes I'm in one room and not the other.

I remember taking a couple of my kidney pills thinking why are they slimy but it didn't register. Sometimes I am just too distracted of a person for my own good. I think chemically they broke down....and DID NOT WORK. So I got a kidney stone for my trouble since this particular drug keeps the kidney stones away. I was ready to nearly double over, and went to the bathroom and got relief, this one was small and passed. No more beef for me, even the once a month meal, is too risky and that was the 90% lean kind from a "good store".

Perhaps the special chemical compounds of my pills touching each other have created chemical reactions never imagined. It makes me wonder what they are doing in my body. The thyroid pills got their own compartment and all decided to start melting. I only had half a week's dosage of pills in the pill box planner.  Everything was okay in the bottles, thank goodness.  Be careful of those pill planners in the summer. So much of my life is dependent on taking these medications. Watching pills melt is not good. I think oxygenation affects medication too. Every one of the pills was far happier in its original bottle.

  1. I'm not a significant user of any drugs, but when I do and it's the warmer part of the year, I usually keep mine in the fridge. Could that work for you?

    1. Some of the pills I looked them up said they can't handle cold temperatures either. In their original bottles they are okay. I am feeling better now.

  2. Very sorry this hapoened. Would the best thing be keeping the pill box in the refrigerator as a matter of habit? Hope you're feeling better.

    1. I'm wondering about wrapping it in plastic or some of those desiccated humidity thingies [LOL I can't think of the name but they suck up the moisture. Thanks.

  3. Its the only way I used to could keep up with my med's I am so OCD that I would take pills twice or sometimes not at all. For a while I was taking almost 20 pills a day but I have that down to 4 or 5 and it should stay down for the foreseeable future. I was on line and people deliberately put their bottle upside down and after taking the dose stand it up right but that only works for smaller amounts of med's.

    1. It helps me remember too. I think I will keep out the kidney and thyroid pills and others will be okay but then I have to remember to take those too.....understand the OCD thing. I have to follow a pretty rigid health schedule just to keep up with it all.

  4. You would think OCD would keep you on track but for me it just makes me over think things to the point of temporary amnesia.

    1. Understand, it can complicate things more.

    2. I wonder if this type of OCD is another way of second guessing ourselves. Its beyond me on how to correct that, start trusting ourselves more? Um, yeah been trying to figure this one out.

  5. Most of those boxes aren't even colored to keep the light out. Light can cause reactions too, that's why camera film develops. I think if you ask the pharmacist if some of your pills can be kept in the fridge, I know how handy those boxes are, I use one too, even for the one pill I take, I can never remember taking it.

I never thought pills could melt, I guess the binding agent does have a melting point so that is why. I'm glad you got better, that was a horrible experience. I can imagine swallowing melting pills too, it would never register for me, this is the first I ever heard of it.
