Phone Funny

It happens to the best of us.

What if Obesity Has Nothing to Do with Overeating?

"Peter Attia, MD, once judged patients who were overweight or obese until, despite exercising three or four hours a day and following the food pyramid to the letter, he gained a significant amount of weight and developed metabolic syndrome. As he explains in this recently posted TEDMED talk, the experience motivated him to radically change his diet, helped him lose 40 pounds, and greatly shifted his perspective on the conventional wisdom of nutrition. And he became almost maniacally obsessed in trying to understand the real relationship between obesity and insulin resistance.
Watch Attia’s talk to find out how he’s working with a team of researchers with competing hypotheses on the cause of the nation’s obesity epidemic to understand how the various foods we consume affect our bodies – and how use this information can be used to help people make sustainable lifestyle changes."

He basically questions the paradigm. "What if obesity is a coping mechanism for a far more sinister problem undergoing the cell?"

I think INSULIN RESISTANCE causes obesity. I was tested as having very high insulin resistance. It actually is a diagnosis that went along with my severe PCOS. [Hair-An syndrome]. In my case, I just do not have the Lipedema messing me up weight wise but OTHER illnesses.

"Is it possible that insulin resistance causes obesity?"

He questions the paradigm of how this is switched around and he asks:

"What if being obese means we are blaming the victims"?

Maybe it's not just the grains but toxicity in this world? Maybe another process is creating severe insulin resistance in people leading to obesity? I think they should look outside the "diets". I wish I could write him an email and may do so.

I believe outside factors are impacting metabolisms. Look for something in the environment. No one chooses to be diabetic. Many of us are scared because our bodies are beyond control. Our bodies laugh at us while conventional wisdoms fails us.

He seems like a sincere man and I am glad someone is thinking outside the box.

BiteSized

"The new documentary Bite Size will have you rooting for four brave kids.

In this exclusive trailer, the film's stars – Keanna, 13, Davion, 12, Moy, 11, and Emily, 13 – get candid about their struggles to lose weight and the challenges they've faced along the way.

"I want my diabetes to go away so I can do what everybody else can do," says football player Davion.

The kids are "cute but conflicted, funny yet flawed," director Corbin Billings tells PEOPLE. "For them, the mission is not simply to lose weight, but to learn to love themselves to change their lifestyle for a healthier, happier future."

These kids have many challenges ahead of them.  I am glad they talk about the realities of the teasing and failed diets. One thing worries me is I had that dream always of "being thin" when young and I was much more mildly overweight as a child but it impacted my life greatly. I was so active and still fat and well you can see this happen to the children above too. Will the perfect lifestyle make you thin? I agree with doing what you can but what if it doesn't? Too many young people learn self-loathing when the weight doesn't come off. Of course I believe that there is more causing the severe obesity out there then "lifestyle failures".

Communication

Both picture and quote from Sanctuary For Awareness and Recovery [Facebook page]:

"Keeping you "in the loop" regarding whatever is going on, schedules, events, gatherings, activities and changes is a very normal part of friendship, family, and partnership. The closer the relationship is supposed to be, the more important this is.

Lack of communication is evidence of many things, none of them positive. Very often, when it's done TO a person who does this, they are very upset, offended, even enraged; but when they do it TO another person, they have a hundred ways to justify and rationalize their actions.

After a while, relationships where clear, direct, and respectful communication is withheld will break down, because communication is literally the thread and fabric that create, maintain, and build any relationship.

While some people who have problems communicating are not doing it consciously, they can usually simply improve their relationships by learning better communication skills from other people and outside resources. There is a wealth of easily accessible information readily available for anyone who wants to improve their communications and relationships with family, friends, partners, children, parents, and others in community and in general.

However, people who purposely don't communicate directly or respectfully often also do other manipulative, self-centered, or self-righteous things such as controlling who gets invited to certain gatherings and activities on one occasion and who does not on another.

They may try to control which of their relatives talk to other relatives, and which of their friends talk to certain other friends (or don't). They may invite only certain friends or family to an activity, and then boast about the activity to those who were not invited but who it would have been appropriate to invite.

This kind of behavior is often learned directly from older relatives during childhood.
Sadly, this behavior usually results in destruction of friendships, family relationships, and even entire communities and regions where it's common. This means destruction in the lives of individuals both who do the behavior, and who it's done to, and those who are connected to either."

Communication is a two way road. We have to not blame ourselves if it breaks down. I know in my case I have some letting go to do, knowing I tried my best but there is nothing good to come from banging my head on walls. If a narcissists destroys your relationships do not be surprised. However do not blame yourself. It wasn't you that destroyed these relationships. The flying monkeys and manipulated too failed to communicate.  Sadly narcissistic control of people is that strong. The above quote describes what many of us go through, the narcissists controlling and blocking communication. Find people who will talk to you like a human being and who care about communication.

Aspies are Knowledge Junkies

From the girl with curly hair...
Aspies are knowledge junkies. We can become Internet addicts because the Internet is like crack for us. I study many things for the fun of it. You all see what I write on this blog but this week, I read about True Crimes in my state, Indian nations in America and Outsider Art.

Fooled By My Brother

"Look at All My Presents!" I know you can't afford any!"
That caption wasn't posted with this picture my brother put up on a social website but the meaning was clear.

This article goes with this one "Conflicted About My Brother"

The more I think about things with my brother, I believed I got suckered and was big time. Even my husband says to me when we discussed all this, "Yes I would agree". Do any of you know of the new TV show "Better Call Saul", my husband says my brother is like him except without the jokes or the insight as to what rules he is actually breaking

I am an emotional sucker for the few crumbs they do throw out, even the nice ones, but even there it is for the sole reason of manipulation. I do believe too many [all?] learned from my mother too well. I am facing facts, my brother is selfish. He had the money to come visit me or let me see my nephews more. He simply did not care. While he has said nicer words to me, he learned the lessons on how to treat me too and the treatment isn't so hot.

I updated the Conflicted article in the comments, but that day when he called me and I thought he "cared" and I thought to myself at least this time he is not bragging about some new purchase, within HOURS, he wrote me on private message on a social website and sent me TWELVE photos of his new rental house with wood floors and the loads of new furniture. I estimate the value of the collection of new furniture which included three beds, a new long dining room table and chairs, 4 computer tables--he has a lot of computers, new couch, love seat, washer and dryer to be around $10,000-$15,000 dollars or so. This was of course just some time after his show-off of his Christmas bonanza you see above too which I did not respond to.

I didn't show my annoyance and laughed on the private message and asked him if he robbed a bank. He had told me he had bedbugs but had worked hard to earn all the money to replace all his furniture. I found this hard to buy. He does not make money to pay for all this. He sells candy with teenagers door to door from van. On the day he called me, he had called me three times. I had not communicated with him in a couple of months. As you know I have considered no contact with him too. Anyhow to my horror because of the way he tracked me down so incessantly, and remember how poor I am here, he really just contacted me to show these things off. It was a time he wanted to bolster himself. He just contacted me to show these things off! How did I fall for it again!?

He made constant promises when on the phone, with me the first time, he would have my nephews call on last Sunday, he knew I missed them and felt disconnected from them. I felt like they were used as pawns. Sunday came and went and no one called. Some may say "Why didn't you call?"  I had called before time always at the wrong time, someone was leaving the house, eating or getting ready, I also am done with chasing after people. No one called. Later I asked him if it was next Sunday they were supposed to call and he wrote back saying "Oh we were too busy". I let it drop and did not respond.

I used to be closer to my brother but I realize now the relationship is essentially nothing.  This is a fact I have to face even though it hurts. I do not think I am at fault I tried my best. I don't mean anything to him but as a mirror to reflect off too. It troubles me how he sees me as the audience to show off his better money to. He is still a few notches down from my sister and mother. This gave me a very lonely feeling and a lot of sadness. One commenter wrote, "He doesn't really see you", and this is true.

I highly suspect given my brother's poor rental history, the bedbugs, and the rest, that my mother got him the house and furniture and insisted pulling strings behind the scenes that I see all of it. He hasn't seen me in 5 years. His children are strangers to me. I ask "Why am I bothering?"

Where Have all the ACON Bloggers Gone?

                                             [from tentalentwealth.com]

I suppose some blog and then get it all out of their system. I feel like I have so many layers to work through this will take longer then most on that particular subject.

One of my favorite bloggers died but I read many others that were taken down after a short period of time or where the blogger stopped blogging. One had "dance" in the title and another "fan" in it, and there's been a whole slew of others that have vaporized. I know with blogs that are mainly ACON blogs, I am sure some may even rush to take down their blogs worrying their families or narcissists may find them.

I have noticed there seems to be a short time span in posting about narcissism.

Since this blog is not purely an ACON blog, and covers obesity, poverty and other matters of life, I know the day could come where I may write more about other topics then that one. I had hoped one day I could write about exciting projects and trips and show more photos, but the drudge of life marches on. Lately I feel like I just want something exciting to happen. Hey the winning Lotto ticket is overdue! :)

But I miss some of those bloggers and video makers who seemingly have dropped off the map for good. I won't mention them by any names here.

Mother Jones is claiming that blogging is dying with Facebook taking control. Barf.

Some post prolifically even for 2 and 3 years and then are finished. Maybe they hit the end point of their recovery and more important matters of life come up and then have nothing more to say.  I know the normal people out there have to make a living and have children to take care of. They have said everything there is to say about their miserable narcs.  I can't judge them for that, it's the natural progress of life us Aspies have a harder time grasping but I do miss them and their writing.

I know I still have more to say but I'm a year and half into it all I suppose so maybe I haven't hit the end run on the ACON stuff like others. Sometimes I hope I got into this blogging thing for the right reasons. I had some sneer at me that blogs are narcissistic ventures in themselves written for attention. This one had some true causes in it, I am dedicated to fat people having a voice and some needed changes being made in that world.  I suppose those matters will not end.

I always wanted to have some voice in the world, hope that doesn't sound narcissistic, but when you see more and more bloggers drop off, it can get lonely. You wonder if you will be silenced here too as the world marches on and leaves you behind. I have weird feelings of standing alone with a tumbleweed blowing by. The stats haven't dropped or anything like that, this blog is read, but it is just some odd things I think about.

I want to print this blog in it's entirety, anyone have any ideas on how to do that where it won't break the bank?
