The Crow

This is another painting I did a little time ago. I love crows, and had collected photos of some, so decided to paint one.

  1. That's really beautiful Peeps! And the look in the bird's eye as well as the detail on the feathers, make it feel so real and lifelike. I just had a beautiful turqoise and black feathered tropical bird in the palm of my hand yesturday morning, a hummingbird the morning before that. They had unfortunately collided with our kitchen window, which we try to keep a little on the dirty side to help. So, I often look in these bird's eyes, as I'm blowing on them and petting them gently to keep them from going into shock. Looking into your bird's eyes here, I see a real live being.
We love crows too, they are very friendly when they do come around, and we feed them. It's oftentimes a mother looking for something to take back to the nest.

    1. Thank you so much Chelle. Yes I love looking at the ravens and crows we get around here. That's great you had hummingbird in your hand, were you next to a feeder? Glad you blew on that bird and were trying to rescue it from a window collision!

  2. I see crows on my walk every day. They kinda scare me. I wonder if there is some biological basis to that, like being afraid of rats. Anyway, very nice painting. Glad you have lots of creative outlets to help you through these times that try the soul. Also glad you put your artwork up as I realized I am really to tired to read.

    1. There could be a biological basis, reminds me of that Birds movie. Guess some are afraid of birds pecking at them and crows/ravens can be big. Thank you regarding the painting. Art is definitely an escape. :)

  3. Hi Peeps,
No bird feeder, but we have some beautiful cone-shaped red succulant flowers growing just ten feet aloft the window. The hummingbirds love them. They are alpinia purpurata, but we call them ginger here. They are in bloom year round and need no care. I have them planted here and there around the property. We are also in the canopy of the trees, so we see lots of birds here. I need to get a book, like from the audubon society. Might be a good thing to splurge on for xmas.

  4. Hi! (I discovered your blog tonight after typing a search query along the lines of "Ostracized from everyone. Too much pain.")

Anyhow, I love crows, actually. And though my art is not painting, I really am impressed with yours!

As well, I LOVE crows—oh, I think I mentioned that already. They're tremendously intelligent. You may well know about a documentary—or something else; I forget—showing these crows, who liked a type of nut (along a busy street) they can't break with their beaks, etc. So, each would grab a nut, fly over the busy intersection at a traffic light; drop it into the street in the intersection, where a car would run over it. Then, each crow would land next to the pedestrians waiting to cross. When the "Walk" light flashed, the pedestrians & crows would cross, all on foot. When the crows would get to their nuts, they'd stopped very briefly to gobble them up—and then do it again!

And there was something about some crows flying around a McDonalds, observing how people would dip those "chicken things" into the sauce packs that come with them.
So, the crows would get fries and unused chicken-sauce packs out of the garbage cans. Then, after carefully poking into the sauce packs—I guess they have trouble opening ketchup packs!—then they'd carefully dip their fries into the sauces, & have their feast!

    Okay—last "Pro-Crow" thing:

I live on the 22nd floor of a highrise in D.C., and lately I've felt very down a lot—and, I cry sometimes.

Well, so, there's this group of crows that likes to perch on my balcony rail & sort of tease or observe my dog (who just looks at them with curiosity) and my cat, who (when seeing birds so close) makes these bizarre noises chirpy "Mee--ee---a" noises and looks partially paralyzed (just cat stuff).

The door's been open to the balcony some lately, so when the crows hear me crying, they just start flocking around the balcony, and if I don't come out there, they FIGURED OUT where my bedroom window is [there are two other bedrooms here and a lot of windows belonging to other people], so they check in on me, &, for at least ten minutes, cry/chirp (I guess, "Hey, what's wrong?" or "We don't like it when you cry!" or whatever), flying back & forth for a while outside my window. I love those birds.

    So, again, great painting!

I enjoy your blog, and wish you well!
