Aspies are Knowledge Junkies

From the girl with curly hair...
Aspies are knowledge junkies. We can become Internet addicts because the Internet is like crack for us. I study many things for the fun of it. You all see what I write on this blog but this week, I read about True Crimes in my state, Indian nations in America and Outsider Art.

  1. Thanks Peeps, I've been really trying to figure this one out. I know I get an emotional attachment to knowledge and it feels good to read about history, and not just history, but the people of history. How they might have thought about things, and that its different about how we feel today.

I don't know if you know anything about the Tudor times, but I always felt a big attachment to it. When Anne Boleyn went to her death, it was calm and cool, and I don't know if I'd feel that way. And I wonder what in the world she was thinking at that time. The king loved her then just so suddenly he didn't and had her put to death, and why would he do that, seeing as that he turned England upside down. What was she thinking? I read the actual contemporary documents written at the time, and I try to get a feel of the way that they did.

And with Thomas Moore, he seemed so in love with God, and went to his death willingly too, to die for God, but he was persecuting people just before that and having them burned at the stake. It makes no sense, and I realize they think differently than we do and I try to get a feel for it.

So yeah, sorry for being so wordy here, I just felt that I have an emotional attachment or link to knowledge and I don't know what it is to actually just want to read for the interest.

    1. I like reading about history too, and have an emotional attachment to it. This means reading non-fiction books and then trying on my end to feel how they felt about things and why it was so different. I think in those days there was the pressure to "die calm and serene" "a good death" even if they rolled you up to be executed. I know I couldn't have done it. Henry the 8th was rewriting laws willi-nilli for his endless marriages. When I was a Catholic I was taught St. Thomas Moore was a holy man but rethought him too when I found out he ordered the burnings at the stake. I have studied the Inquisitions and read the Foxe's Book of Martyrs. England definitely got turned upside down.

I always wondered as the wives died or were put to death--the majority how even being King he got another wife to run the roulette wheel. What was Catherine Parr thinking when it came to all those dead wives as #6?

  2. Thomas More was basically the Albert Speer of his day -- a technocrat who willingly served an evil man, only to realize (too late) where his blind loyalty had put him...on the chopping block!

    1. I agree. Serving an evil man and an evil system. I had this priest defend the Inquisition to me once online. I could tell he couldn't wait to get things rolling again and put "heretics" like me back on the stake.

  3. I completely agree with you about the Internet being like crack to Aspies. I used to post on forums, and it sometimes seemed like half the people posting were fellow Aspies. I think many of us actually do possess social skills but can't "think on our feet"the way NTs can;we need to think everything over first, and think about how we're going to interact. That's why I think writing is a better modality for most Aspies than speaking and face to face socializing.
And I totally agree about the knowledge junkie thing. People think I am so weird because I focus intensely on one or two (usually quite strange) topics at a time and become OBSESSED with them. I hate small talk and chit chat about shallow things, but I love online environments where it's okay to talk about obscure things in a deep way. 1. I met fellow Aspies on forums, so agree there too. I think Aspies do better in written form too then spoken form. I know I do even before the hearing thing got in the mix. I have my topics I study all the time, I don't see most NTs living life that way. I like deep conversations too :)

  4. One more thing. I was inspired by this post to write this new blog post about being Aspie: http://luckyottershaven.com/2015/02/08/aspies-are-knowledge-junkies/
    Enjoy!
